Gucci Bag Serial Number Check: Part 2 | Ultimate Real vs. Fake Gucci Bag Guide

In Part 1 of the Gucci serial number check of our ‘Ultimate Real vs. Fake Gucci Bag Guide’, we have closely discussed the Gucci font.

This is a great starting point on how to tell if a Gucci bag is real (or fake).

There’s also an in-depth information on vintage Gucci bags’ serial numbers and leather tags.

We continue here at the Part 2 of the Gucci Serial number check with another style of Gucci leather tag and serial number.

This is mostly found on bags from the 1990s, even until the early 2000s.

A Vintage Reworking As you may remember, Gucci has employed a round leather tag in some of its vintage bags.

A newer version of this had the Gucci knight crest removed, along with the gold-tone metal plaque.  For instance, look at this example:

If you are familiar with a contemporary Gucci Interlocking bag, they have the same logo — only that this is not made with a silver hardware.

Going back to the leather tag, you will notice that the front was devoid of other things except for ‘GUCCI’ (all caps), and the ‘made in italy’ (lowercase).

However, there are instances that with the same style of round leather tab, the ‘MADE IN ITALY’ is written in all capital letters. For example, take a look at the photo below:

Just like vintage bags, the serial number is clustered in groups as well.

However, there are authentic bags that have groupings of 4. The color of the leather tag usually also matches the color of the bag (with rare exceptions).

A white leather tag should not be found in a black bag, nor does a brown leather tag be found in a white bag.

A quick note about Gucci serial numbers: they are not unique. Just like a Louis Vuitton date code, the same set/combination can appear in a number of bags.

In the next post of this ‘Ultimate Real vs. Fake Gucci Bag Guide’, we will be discussing the newer style leather tags: the rectangular leather tag. This is the type of tag we usually see in contemporary Gucci bags, which should need your utmost attention.
