Our first bag: a Christian Dior Grained Calfskin Saddle Bag.

The Christian Dior Saddle Bag is an iconic designer handbag and a known fixture since its the early aughts. Known for its unique, equestrian-inspired shape, it has a distinctive curved silhouette that mimics the shape of a horse’s saddle. It has a short shoulder strap with a ‘CD’ hardware, and a bold “D” charm that hangs from the flap closure. Its larger sizes (the double) has the ‘CD’ hanging charm.

Original Release (1999):

Designed by John Galliano during his tenure as Dior’s creative director, the bag debuted in the Spring/Summer 2000 collection and quickly became a status symbol in the early 2000s, often seen on celebrities, and famously carried by Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City.

Re-release (2018):

Under Maria Grazia Chiuri’s direction, the Saddle Bag was reimagined and reintroduced for Dior’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection. Maintaining the classic shape, the revival included updates on materials, modern embellishments, and a variety of sizes, appealing to both nostalgic and contemporary audiences.
